RIISE Private Screening American Promise

american promise

Folks are still mentioning the awesome panel from the RIISE Town Hall-Admitted & Successful, hosted by Horace Mann this past December. One of the panelists was Michéle Stephenson, the other half of the filmmaking duo whose documentary American Promise has received critical acclaim (Sundace, POV). The documentary will have it’s theatrical release this fall but, spring has been popping with private viewings across the city at various independent schools.

A couple of weeks ago, Dalton Mom, Annette Carter,  invited me to attend a screening at Dalton. Although RIISE  was soon to host  a small private screening for parents & admin among the membership, I could not resist the chance for a sneak peek. Incredible and powerful, I felt the call to action to somehow participate in influencing the achievement/opportunity gaps many young men of color face inside and outside of independent schools.

RIISE is thrilled to now have the other half of the film duo Joe Brewster, at our screening for Q&A and  to share the courage it took to turn the cameras on his family and that of another as they journeyed to educate their sons. RIISE is also honored to have Promise Film as Media Sponsor for our upcoming May 5, RIISE Parent Power Conference 2013 (#RIISEPPC13), where they will share the trailer and connect with parents about the Promise.  Register for Conference Today – info@4RIISE.org
