SS_17351_RIISE Aug. Workshop_1707052

Enrolling at top colleges and universities is said to be seamless for independent school graduates. Yet, one college professor challenges this notion when it comes to college writing, and she wants to do something about it! Enter educator, historian, jazz aficionado, author and Summer Vineyarder, Dr LaShonda Katrice Barnett. A full time visiting professor at North Western University in both the African American Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies departments, LaShonda’s workshop will help high achieving 10th-12th graders + recent college freshman close the writing gaps.

Students will learn:

  • what academic writing skills college professors are looking for-immediately

  • why essential academic writing skills impacts overall success

  • what writing strategies and tools to employ, and when

  • how critical thinking shapes effective and persuasive writing

  • the value of their stories and how to tell them

Meet Dr. Barnett here as she is interviewed at A+ about her novel Jam on the Vine and our country’s complicated history with racial justice—http://aplus.com/s/dbb2fa71c26

Let’s get our students writing on the Vineyard, before heading to the beach!

LIMITED SEATS, first come first served.
