Reminder – Support for Transracial Adoption

Shared by our friends at POCIS

AFCAF/NY (Adoptive Families with Children of African Heritage and Their Friends, NY) in collaboration with FCCNY (Families with Children from China Greater New York) and the Adoption Initiative of St. John’s University, New York, present:

Transracial Adoption Parenting Workshops

October 2012 – April 2013 in New York City

Every Second Tuesday of the Month

The idea behind this monthly series of seven, two-hour Tuesday evenings (7-9 pm) is to address subjects regarding parenting the transracially adopted child, subjects that are both challenging for speakers and audience and beyond the well known stories within the larger adoption community. The format is that of two speakers per evening, one who takes the perspective of the adult adoptee and one who voices the side of the adoptive parent.  After the two presentations speakers and audience discuss the subject of the evening under the guidance of moderator, clinical psychologist, Kelly Sykes. We secured the collaboration of great adoption specialists in the New York area. Full biographies of the speakers on the FCCNY store page, or on request: Ligtvoet(at)

For whom

The evenings are meant for adoptive parents, prospective adoptive parents, social workers and therapists (CEU credits available), students of social studies and social work and all who are touched by adoption.
