RIISE Back to School Focus – Mental Wellness

Imagine that in addition to receiving an incredible education there is a slight chance that your child, or someone else’s is having feelings of isolation; surviving through assimilation; questioning their identification; struggling with socialization; desiring validation; or stressed about academic expectations.

No matter how earnest we are as parents in providing opportunities for our children to soar, it is a possibility that at some point in time they will be challenged by these experiences.

Acknowledge it, or not, we believe that mental wellness should be addressed as a developmental foundation for intellectual risk-taking and character growth, especially when the risks take place in rigorous schools that are still striving to achieve equity through race, culture, sexual-orientation, and socio-economics.

With the caring guidance of our social & emotional advisor, Delia Farquharson,LCSW, mental wellness will be a consistent theme for RIISE this year. We hope you journey with us as we survey the needs of our community, remove the stigma, respect each others need for privacy and openly offer viable & therapeutic ways to help ensure our children will have the quality of life they should expect for themselves.
