Two Part Virtual Workshop December 27th 2024 and January 4th, 2025 @ 4PM EST. | Juniors or 11th Grade.

About this Workshop:

Led by College Essay Coach Carrington Walsh, students will explore a new perspective for sharing their stories with College Admissions. In this two-session Worshop, Carrington will lend her expertise in storytelling, writing techniques, and focus methods with Juniors who are crafting their Personal Statements and applying to college.

Carrington’s unique visual-narrative-influenced approach will prepare students for the specific challenge of writing a Personal Statement, and the ways in which this form of writing can be new, exciting, and expressive.

Workshop Agenda:

Part 1, December 27 2024.

Demystify the college essay process and ensure you understand the basics.

  • What is a personal statement and what makes a good one? Let's talk about the compelling elements of a story and how you can craft one.

  • Brainstorming time! Let's begin the brainstorming process and discuss various ideas that could make a strong and interesting personal statement. (This will include time to free write!)

Part 2, January 4 2025.

Understand the basics of supplements and how to outline your ideas. 

  • What are supplements? In addition to your personal statement, you'll likely be expected to write supplements. 

  • Brainstorming time! What stories can you draw upon for these shorter essays? 

  • Outline time! What makes an effective outline? How should you approach a personal statement outline?
